Cuisine Italian
- 12 ounces spaghetti
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic minced
- 1 can crushed tomatoes (28 ounces)
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 cup fresh basil chopped
- Grated Parmesan cheese for serving
Cook the spaghetti according to package instructions until al dente. Reserve 1/2 cup of pasta water, then drain and set aside.
In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Once shimmering, add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
Pour in the crushed tomatoes, and stir in the sugar, salt, and black pepper. Slowly bring the sauce to a simmer.
Let the sauce simmer gently for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally to enhance the flavors and thicken slightly.
Add the cooked spaghetti directly into the skillet with the sauce. Toss well with tongs to coat the pasta evenly.
If the sauce appears too thick, add a splash of the reserved pasta water, a little at a time, to loosen it.
Mix in the fresh basil just before serving to retain its vibrant green color and flavor.
Plate the pasta and sprinkle generously with freshly grated Parmesan cheese. Serve immediately and enjoy!
