1(14- to 16-ounce)package firm or extra-firm tofu, drained
2tablespoonstamari or reduced-sodium soy sauce
1tablespoonvegetable oil, plus more for baking sheet
½teaspoongarlic powder
½teaspoononion powder
2tablespoonscornstarch
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 400°F and position a rack in the middle.
Press the tofu to remove excess moisture. Lay it between two clean kitchen towels or paper towels, and place a heavy object (like a cast-iron skillet) on top. Let it press for at least 10 minutes.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the tamari, vegetable oil, garlic powder, and onion powder. Cut the tofu into ¾- to 1-inch cubes, then toss them in the marinade until evenly coated. Sprinkle the cornstarch over and toss again until no powdery spots remain.
Lightly oil a metal baking sheet and arrange the tofu cubes in a single layer. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the tofu is golden and crispy on the edges.
Let the tofu cool for 3 minutes before serving (it will be hot straight out of the oven). Enjoy immediately, or allow it to cool completely and store in the fridge for up to 5 days.
